Ark 2011 in English

That was Ark 2011!!

Many participants said that this was the best Ark ever! Not so much anything radically new was experimented, but the atmosphere was good... We had 2 rounds in the camp: first one for first-timers in the Ark camp: orphanages of Pjaozero, Kostomuksha, Olonez and Avdeevo (all from Republic of Carelia) and the 2nd round for good old friends: Lopuhinka, Belomorsk, SPB Internate no 24 and Pedrozavodsk orphanage no 4.

We had a lot of challenges and adventures with transport, with buses and cars breaking down as well in Russia as in Finland... It was a source of some stress but also a lot of laughter in the end! Everything ended up good and everyone got home safe!

What is Ark camp?

Ark camp is a Russian-speaking camp ministry for children without parental care. Over the years some 25 different orphanages from NW Russia, Latvia and Estonia have participated in the camps. The first Ark was built in 2006. In addition to large summer camps we have also organized smaller winter camps in Finland and Russia, as well as day camps.

We hope that Ark camps could also be a time of refreshing for the hard-working orphanage workers. We invite lot of reliable volunteers to spend time with the children as group leaders. Most of the group leaders, as well as other camp staff come from Russia. In addition to Russia and Finland, this year we had visitors and volunteers also from USA, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, Belorussia, Canada and Brazil!

Officially, Ark camps are organized by International Camp Partnership, a non-governmental organization based in Finland (formerly called Mene ja kerro ry - Go tell it). See www.menejakerro.net.

Funding for Ark camps comes almost 100% from individual people who have children on their heart! In 2006 we received a grant from NORDEN. Please stay in touch if you'd like to support our ministry either financially or some other way! Email matti (at) menejakerro.fi  tel +358-50-3089663.
